Emily Jernigan Has been weaving baskets and learning the Art of Basketry for ten years now. She took her first basketry class with Chuck and Peggy Patrick at the Rivercane Rendezvous and fell in love with the process right away. Her teachers through the years have included Emma Jackson Garret, Nancy basket, Laura Roscoe, April Stone Dahl and many more.
Emily has a love for the natural world and all the basket material you can find in it. She is always experimenting with new and different natural basketry materials wherever she goes. Among her favorites are Black Ash, White Oak, Rivercane and Palm Fronds.
Basket Weaver...Basket Teacher
Emily has been teaching Basketry and Hand Weaving to adults and children for the past 4 years. She teaches at primitive skills gatherings, summer camps, after school programs, The Organic Growers School, and teaches public and private classes in Asheville and surrounding areas. Emily taught basketry and other crafts to adults with developmental disabilities for the past year and continues to work one on one with a couple of them.
Emily enjoys teaching almost as much as she enjoys weaving baskets. She is always working on improving her teaching methods and collecting new skills to share. To the right is a picture of Emily with some of her newest friends and basket teachers. Emily is excited to learn more from this fine crew of weavers/teachers!
